HIBISCUS Hybrid Bonding Spaces for Ill Children in Inclusive Schools

Hybrid, inclusive learning spaces so that children who are ill can keep learning — and stay connected to their class.

About the project

Some students cannot attend school regularly because of illness: they follow lessons in hospital schools or receive home education. Their right to learn is protected, but staying part of a class community is often much harder.

HIBISCUS — HybrId BondIng Spaces for ill Children in inclUsive Schools — brings together research institutes, universities and schools from across Europe to design hybrid, inclusive educational spaces that support educational continuity, active participation and a sense of belonging.

What we will do

  1. Share knowledge

Compare national regulations and the educational practices of partner schools for hospital and home education.

  2. Design the HIES model

Develop a model of a Hybrid Inclusive Educational Space (HIES) connecting students, teachers and classmates.

  3. Guidelines

Produce practical guidelines for schools and teachers on how to set up and run hybrid inclusive spaces.

  4. Training & resources

Offer training activities and open educational resources for teachers and school communities.

Partnership

The project is coordinated by the Institute for Educational Technology of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR-ITD).
